Rivera's record chase comes home to the Bronx
Joe Girardi wasn't going to go out of his way to make it happen, but it appears the stars will align naturally for the occurrence: Mariano Rivera is more than likely to set a Major League record with his 602nd career save this week at Yankee Stadium.
With the Yankees returning home from a series in Toronto -- where Girardi said this weekend he wouldn't hold Rivera back if the opportunity came for him to break Trevor Hoffman's record on the road -- the dominant Yankees closer should get his shot at the top of the all-time career saves list in front of the Yankees' faithful.
"Yeah, I mean, that's exciting," Girardi said. "I think that's exciting for our fans, and hopefully he gets about five or six this week."
